Twin Falls, ID – On June 7, the new administrative and laboratory building at the Amalgamated Sugar Twin Falls  factory opened for operations. The grand opening was celebrated with a ribbon cutting with the Twin Falls Chamber  of Commerce and Amalgamated Sugar’s Board of Directors and management personnel.

On June 8, Amalgamated Sugar held a family fun night for employees and their families with facility tours, scavenger hunts, and coloring  contests.

Two years ago, Amalgamated Sugar’s Board of Directors approved the construction of the new office complex. The old engineering and front office buildings were extremely outdated and well past their useful life. The new modern  30,000 ft² two story office complex features a large conference room and will also house all administrative  employees, including engineering, safety, human resources, accounting, procurement, and agriculture.

Another exciting element of the new building is the state-of-the-art Central Laboratory. The Central Lab was previously located in the Amalgamated Research, Inc. (ARi) facility, due to a lack of available space at the Twin Falls factory. Amalgamated Sugar’s Central Lab is an ISO certified lab that tests in-process samples from all Amalgamated Sugar’s factories, feed products, final product sugar and specialty sugar for pharmaceuticals. The new Central Lab is 3,200 sq/ft; three times larger than the current lab. “The biggest improvement will be the new micro laboratory which will allow us the capability to test more microbiological samples for Amalgamated Sugar and National Sugar  Marketing (NSM) partners,” said Amalgamated Sugar’s Lab Services Manager, Nic Castle.

The Twin Falls factory is Amalgamated Sugar Company's oldest facility, built in 1916. Today, the factory processes 6,800 tons of sugarbeets and granulates 1,100 tons of sugar per day. The factory employs over 400 employees and operates year-round.

“This is an exciting time for our Twin Falls factory, and we look forward to fully utilizing the new space and attracting the best talent to the company as an employer of choice in the Magic Valley and beyond,” said Amalgamated Sugar’s President and CEO, John McCreedy. “The construction of the Twin Falls Office Complex demonstrates the commitment of our growers and our Board of Directors to continuing investing in our facilities, our employees and our communities,” added Mike Garner, Chairman of the Amalgamated Sugar Board of Directors.
