On March 24, Veterans of Foreign Wars accepted a ceremonial check for $2,500 at Amalgamated Sugar Company’s Nampa factory. The facility’s employees were pleased to present the donation, which is part of Amalgamated Sugar’s President’s Safety Award.
The Company implemented the program to celebrate a factory’s safety milestones by contributing to worthy community organizations.
Recently, the Nampa factory achieved 250,000 work hours without a recordable injury. The contribution to Veterans of Foreign Wars is the fifth donation the factory has made as part of the President’s Safety Award program. The Nampa factory made past President’s Safety Award contributions to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho, Make-A-Wish Idaho, Community Council of Idaho, and Boys & Girls Club of Nampa.
“Safety is one of Amalgamated Sugar Company’s core values,” said Jason Lowry, Nampa Plant Manager. “There are three reasons why Amalgamated Sugar is an industry leader in safety: a safety program that is second to none, a strong team of safety professionals, and a workforce that sees value in workplace safety.”
Amalgamated Sugar’s President & CEO, John McCreedy, spoke about the importance of safety company-wide. “The impacts of our safety program reach all levels of the company,” said McCreedy. “People take a little extra time each day to think through their tasks and how to do them safely.”
Working safely and keeping fellow employees safe have become a part of the Nampa factory’s culture, and the President’s Safety Award has become a special way to celebrate that philosophy. “When you work in an industrial environment, it is important to be your brother’s keeper – something I know that those involved with VFW understand,” said Derek Childers, BCTGM Union Nampa Local 284G President to the members of Veterans of Foreign Wars in attendance. “Thank you for your sacrifice and service.”
Local representatives for the Veterans of Foreign Wars presented the company with a certificate of appreciation for supporting its organization and services to the community. “This donation will go toward unmet needs in our community,” said VFW District 5 Honor Guard Chairman Tammy Clement. “Our organization supports not only veterans but also their families and children.”
