Now that the 2023 sugarbeet harvest is almost all but wrapped up in Idaho, Oregon and Washington, the three states where growers supply sugarbeets to Amalgamated Sugar’s three factories, that means the factories are well into the slicing campaign for this fall and winter.
We say “almost all” because, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, as of the week ending Nov. 5, 2023, 92 percent of the sugarbeet crop has been harvested in Idaho and 89 percent in Oregon.
As the 2023-24 Amalgamated Sugar campaign is in full swing, here is a look back at some 2022-23 slicing campaign figures for each of the three factories: Nampa, Twin Falls and Mini-Cassia (located in Paul, ID).
