The USDA NASS has provided an update on the 2024 U.S. sugarbeet crop progress in its weekly crop progress report (https://www.nass.usda.gov/) from last week. Here’s a sample of what the latest report showed.
Colorado – Growers in Colorado are just about done planting with 98 percent of beets planted, up from 94 percent a week ago. And that’s a bit ahead of the 94 percent five-year average and ahead of the 91 percent that was planted at this time a year ago.
The report also shows 71 percent of the beet crop has emerged, up from the 51 percent that had emerged a week ago. The five-year average at this time of year is 59 percent.
Wyoming – Beets in Wyoming have, according to NASS reports, made a big jump in emergence with 52 percent of the crop up, a definite improvement from the 33 percent a week ago. The five-year average is 69 percent.
Michigan - The NASS report shows 95 percent of the beets have emerged, an increase of 20 percent (from 75 percent) from a week ago and well ahead of the five-year average of 78 percent.
The report also shows that 67 percent of the beet crop is in excellent condition with another 28 percent in good condition. Five percent is rated as fair.
Minnesota – Minnesota sugarbeets are rated as77 percent being in excellent condition with another 20 percent in good condition. Three percent are rated as being in fair condition.
North Dakota – Across the Red River in North Dakota, the 2024 sugarbeet crop has been rated as 90 percent excellent and 9 percent good. The other 1 percent is rated as fair.
Idaho – Planting is done in the state and 90 percent of the crop has emerged, a nice jump from the 79 percent a week ago. The five-year average is 81 percent.
Sixty-five percent of the crop is ranked as being in good condition with another 26 percent rated as fair. Nine percent of the crop is rated as excellent.
Montana – The state’s sugarbeet growers have 35 percent of the crop in, which is a bit behind where they were last year (39 percent). The 35 percent planted is up from 17 percent of what was planted a week ago.
Two percent of the crop has emerged.
Oregon – The sugarbeet crop is rated as 10 percent in excellent condition, 40 percent as good and 30 percent as fair. The other 20 percent is rated as poor.
