The USDA NASS has provided an update on the 2025 U.S. sugarbeet crop planting in its weekly crop progress report (https://www.nass.usda.gov/) from this week. Here’s a sample of what the latest report showed.

Michigan - Growers in the state have again made impressive gains in the past week with 70 percent of the beets in the ground, which is well ahead of the 28 percent a week ago. That is also ahead of last year’s 45 percent as well as the five-year average of 54 percent. Five percent of the crop has emerged.

Idaho – Idaho growers are darn near done planting sugarbeets with planting standing at 93 percent at the time of the report, well ahead of last year when planting was 60 percent done. The five-year average is 74 percent. The 93 percent on this week’s report also shows a good gain over last week’s 83 percent. The NASS reports 20 percent of the beets have emerged.

Oregon – Across the border in Oregon, 95 percent of the sugarbeet crop has been planted, up from 75 percent a week ago. The five-year average figure wasn’t available on this week’s report. Also 50 percent of the crop has emerged.

WyomingThe Cowboy state shows 52 percent of the crop in the ground, well ahead of last week’s 33 percent but right in line with last year’s figure of 54 percent at this time of year. The five-year average is 37 percent.

Minnesota – NASS reports that Minnesota growers have 44 percent of the crop planted, a huge jump from last week’s 2 percent. Last year, 74 percent of the crop had been planted by this time of year with the five-year average at 29 percent.

North DakotaNorth Dakota sugarbeets are 31 percent planted, which is behind last year’s 45 percent but ahead of the 16 percent average.

ColoradoColorado growers have 30 percent of their sugarbeets in the ground, a little more than double last week’s 14 percent. However, last year at this time 46 percent of the crop was in but the 30 percent is still ahead of the five-year average of 22 percent. Interestingly enough, the NASS reports still shows one percent of the beets that have been planted have emerged. That’s the same as last week?
