BLACKFOOT, Idaho—The old sugarbeet factory is coming down. The factory is located at the north end of Blackfoot on Highway 91. The facility has been part of Blackfoot history for over 110 years.
Built in 1904, the factory produced sugar from sugar beets for Amalgamated Sugar. The Amalgamated Sugar label is White Satin. Founded in 1897 in Logan, Utah, the headquarters is now located in Boise.
The factory continued producing sugar until the mid-1900s./Dale Kirkham from Pocatello purchased the facility. Con Agra, doing business as Pacifex, leased the buildings from Kirkham. It was used as a wholesale fertilizer facility.
