The current contract will expire on July 31. That contract was approved in April 2013. A previous contract was rejected in August 2011 by 96 percent of the union’s voting members, leading to a company lockout.
Only about 400 of the 1,300 employees that were locked out returned to work after the current contract was finally approved.
Today about 1,200 union employees under the contract work at American Crystal facilities in Minnesota and North Dakota.
As of press time, union representatives did not return calls seeking comment on the upcoming negotiations.
