The National Farmers Union (NFU) is asking President Trump to stay the course on global climate change goals agreed to during the Obama Administration.

NFU president Roger Johnson says initiatives brought about by the Paris Agreement not only benefit the environment, but often create new profit centers for farmers and rural America.

“We know there’s been an awful lot of sort-of anti-science, climate-denier kind of folks that have really been pounding this administration to continue down this road of ignoring the science and trying to withdraw from our positions of world leadership.”

The Paris Agreement has been ratified by more than 140 countries, including the United States.

It encourages voluntary and nationally determined targets for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), with the U.S. committing to GHG reductions of more than 25 percent by 2025.

Trump is expected to make a decision on whether to stay in the agreement by late May.
