The USDA NASS has provided an update on the U.S. sugarbeet crop harvest in its weekly crop progress report (https://www.nass.usda.gov/) from last week. Here’s a sample of what the latest report showed.

North Dakota – The 2024 harvest is complete.

Colorado – Growers in Colorado are making good progress in their state’s sugarbeet harvest with 92 percent of beets lifted, compared to 89 percent a week ago. That’s slightly behind last year’s 94 percent.

Wyoming – Wyoming has, according to NASS reports, harvested 89 percent of its beet crop thus far this year. That’s slightly ahead of last week’s 86 percent but behind last year’s 94 percent harvested by this time of year.

Michigan - Growers in the state are gaining on it, and made tremendous progress this week compared to the week previous. Eighty-five percent of the beets have been harvested, a 15 percent jump from last week’s 70 percent but slightly behind last year’s 89 percent harvested at this time of the year. The five-year average is 87 percent.

Minnesota – The 2024 crop has all been harvested according to the USDA NASS.

Idaho – Growers in Idaho have just about wrapped up the 2024 harvest with 95 percent of the crop in. That’s a bump compared to last week’s 89 percent harvested and right in line with the five-year average of 95 percent. And this last week’s number is 1 percent ahead of last year’s 94 percent harvested at this time of year.

Oregon – Across the border in Oregon, the 2024 harvest is complete.

Montana – Montana growers also made significant progress last week in the beet harvest. They’ve harvested 86 percent of the crop, up from last week’s 71 percent. Last year at this time, 88 percent of the beets had been lifted with the five-year average at 79 percent.
