The USDA NASS has provided an update on the U.S. sugarbeet crop harvest in its weekly crop progress report (https://www.nass.usda.gov/) from last week. Here’s a sample of what the latest report showed.
North Dakota – For the week ending Oct. 27, the report showed growers have the 2024 sugarbeet crop almost all harvested with 95 percent of the beets lifted. That’s really close to the 96 percent harvested at this time last year and 10 percent ahead of the average of 85 percent.
Colorado – Growers in Colorado are making good progress in their state’s sugarbeet harvest with 89 percent of beets lifted, compared to 80 percent a week ago. That’s slightly behind last year’s 90 percent.
Wyoming – Wyoming has, according to NASS reports, harvested 86 percent of its beet crop thus far this year. That’s slightly ahead of last week’s 82 percent but behind last year’s 88 percent harvested by this time of year.
Michigan - Growers in the state are gaining on it, and made tremendous progress this week compared to the week previous. Seventy percent of the beets have been harvested, a 32 percent jump from last week’s 38 percent and ahead last year’s 66 percent harvested at this time of the year. The five-year average is 67 percent.
Minnesota – The 2024 crop has all but been harvested according to the USDA NASS, which shows the state’s growers have 98 percent of the beets out of the ground. Last week growers had 90 percent harvested. The 98 percent already harvested matches last year’s same number at this time of the year. The five-year average for this time of year in Minnesota is 87 percent.
Idaho – Growers in Idaho made significant progress this past week harvesting sugarbeets with 89 percent of the crop in. That’s quite an improvement compared to last week’s 67 percent harvested and almost in line with the five-year average of 88 percent. And this last week’s number is a shade ahead of last year’s 87 percent harvested at this time of year.
Oregon – Across the border in Oregon, 99 percent of the sugarbeet crop has been harvested, up from last week’s 63 percent. Last year at this time, 81 percent of Oregon’s beets had been harvested with the five-year average at 86 percent.
Montana – Montana growers also made significant progress last week in the beet harvest. They’ve harvested 71 percent of the crop, up from last week’s 54 percent. Last year at this time, 73 percent of the beets had been lifted with the five-year average at 69 percent.
